Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal information Compass EV collects when you use this website and our buyer-report service, what we do with it, who we share it with, and the rights you have under UK data protection law.

We’ve tried to keep it short and plain-English. If anything is unclear, email hello@compassev.ukand we’ll explain.

Who we are

Compass EV is a trading name of Compass EV Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. We are the “data controller” for the personal information described below.

What we collect, and why

The free EV suitability quiz

If you take the quiz, we collect: the answers you give, your email address, and (optionally) the first half of your postcode. We use this to send you your verdict, and — if you opt in — a small number of follow-up emails relevant to your situation.

The paid intake form (buyer report)

If you start the intake for a buyer report, we collect: your name, email, WhatsApp number, the answers you give about your driving and budget, and any free-text notes you share. We use this to produce your report and to communicate with you about it.

If you save and return later, we store your in-progress answers temporarily so you can resume. Drafts are deleted automatically after 30 days if not submitted.

Email replies and WhatsApp messages

Anything you send us by email or WhatsApp is stored in those services and used to provide the service you’ve asked for.

Website analytics

We use Vercel Analytics to count visits to each page. This is privacy-first: it doesn’t set cookies, doesn’t track you across sites, and doesn’t identify you individually. See the cookies page for more.

The legal basis we rely on

• Performance of a contract— when you’ve asked us to produce a report, we process the data you give us in order to do that.
• Consent— for marketing emails and the optional follow-up sequences from the quiz. You can withdraw consent at any time using the “unsubscribe” link in any email.
• Legitimate interests — for basic website analytics, and for replying to enquiries you send us.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of third parties to operate the service:

• Vercel — hosts the website and provides anonymous traffic analytics.
• Loops— sends the verdict email, the report-related transactional emails, and any nurture sequences you’ve opted in to.
• Stripe — processes payment when you buy a buyer report. Stripe is the data controller for the payment information you give them; we never see or store your card details.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with dealers, manufacturers, brokers, finance providers, or any commercial partner. The whole point of Compass EV is that we have no commercial relationships with any of those parties.

How long we keep it

• Quiz answers and email — kept while you remain subscribed; deleted within 30 days of you unsubscribing.
• Buyer-report intake — kept for 6 years after delivery of the report, to meet UK accounting record-keeping requirements and to support follow-up questions or repeat work.
• In-progress drafts — automatically deleted 30 days after the last edit.
• Website analytics — aggregated, anonymous, retained as long as the analytics provider holds it (typically 12 months).

International transfers

Some of the providers above (e.g. Vercel, Stripe) are based outside the UK and may process data in the United States or the EU. Where they do, the transfers are protected by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an equivalent safeguard.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

• Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct anything that’s wrong.
• Ask us to delete it (subject to the retention obligations above).
• Withdraw consent for marketing at any time.
• Object to processing or ask us to restrict it.
• Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) if you think we’ve mishandled your data.

Changes to this notice

If we make material changes, we’ll update the “effective” date above and, where appropriate, email you. The current version is always at this URL.
